TheatreDreams was formed in 2001, and, with its affiliates, has co-produced Broadway productions including Neil Simon's The Dinner Party ; Mark Hollman and Greg Kotis' Urinetown ; and Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, among many others.

Urinetown won the 2002 Tony® Awards for Best Original Score (Lyrics and Music) (Mark Hollman and Greg Kotis), Best Book of a Musical (Greg Kotis) and Best Direction of a Musical (John Rando); the Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Choreography (John Carrafa); the Drama Critics Award for Best Musical; and the Outer Critics Awards for Outstanding Broadway Musical, Outstanding Director of a Musical, and Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical (Spencer Kayden). Urinetown concluded a successful run on Broadway at the Henry Miller Theater on 43rd Street in January 2004. The national tour began in San Francisco in June, 2003.

Into The Woods, featuring Vanessa Williams in an ensemble cast, won the 2002 Tony® Award for Best Musical Revival and Best Lighting Design (Brian MacDevitt). The Dinner Party recouped its investment in twelve weeks and ran for almost a year at the Music Box Theatre on Broadway.

TheatreDreams co-produced Good Vibrations, featuring songs of the Beach Boys. The Broadway production was directed and choreographed by Tony® Award Nominee John Carrafa (Urinetown). The book was by playwright/writer Richard Dresser. TheatreDreams co-produced with Dodger Theatrical Productions the Stratford Shakespeare Festival production of Jesus Christ Superstar at The Neil Simon Theatre in 2012 and the acclaimed Royal Shakespeare Company's Matilda The Musical, which opened at The Shubert on Broadway in April, 2013. Additionally, TheatreDreams joined with Dodgers on Groundhog Day (nominated as Best Musical 2017) and Summer: The Donna Summer Musical (Broadway and Tour, 2018-19).

In April 2004 at its new venue, the 3600-seat Chicago Theatre, TheatreDreams launched a 3-week run of the new US production of Slava's Snowshow, which then moved to New York for an extended off-Broadway run. In 2005 and 2006, TheatreDreams produced Spirit of Christmas at the Kodak Theatre; at The Chicago Theatre, The Boy Friend directed by Julie Andrews and originally produced by Goodspeed Musicals, and at both venues, a broad range of popular entertainment productions. In September 2006, TheatreDreams opened its newly constructed 288-seat venue, named the Chicago Theatre Downstairs, with a new production of Shear Madness, which has been performed over 44,000 times worldwide. Over 400 performances were presented at The Chicago Theatre until TheatreDreams' ownership and management of The Chicago Theatre concluded with the sale to MSG Chicago, LLC.

In 2006 TheatreDreams joined with Dodgers in the touring companies of Jersey Boys which toured the United States until 2022, as well as Australia and and long-running productions in London and Las Vegas and in 2019 an Off-Broadway version of this smash musical at The World Stages in New York.

TheatreDreams is developing several other new works for presentation pre-Broadway, on Broadway, in other theater markets, and also for "sit-down" productions. The company participates with other producers and promoters in the production and presentation of contemporary music and dance.
